Kenyon Network Password

What Is a Network Password?

Each new Kenyon student and employee is assigned a network password which, along with your username, enables you to sign into Kenyon's network services, which include email, Moodle, public computers, and network drives. Your Google Mail and network passwords are the same; when you change one of them, you change the other one as well.

Kenyon's Network Password Requirements

For security reasons, all Kenyon network users are required to change their password every 180 days using http://reset.kenyon.edu. Additionally, if you ever believe that you have replied to a spam or phishing email, you should immediately change your password, and then promptly notify Helpline at x5700.

IMPORTANT: Your new Kenyon password MUST meet all the following criteria

  • Minimum of eight characters long
  • Cannot reuse a former password
  • Cannot contain all or part of your username
  • Must contain characters from at least three of the following four categories:
    • English uppercase characters (A through Z)
    • English lowercase characters (a through z)
    • Base 10 digits (0 through 9)
    • Non-alphabetic characters (for example, !, $, #, %)

Choosing a good password is easy. Here are a few pointers:

  • Do not use the same password for different accounts.
  • Do not use names, nor combinations of names, whether they be your name or anyone else's.
  • Do not use dictionary words or combinations of words.
  • Do use combinations of upper and lower case letters as well as digits and punctuation characters. One way to invent a good password is to think of a phrase, such as "I just want to get logged in!" and then use the first letters of each word, as well as the punctuation characters. Thus the aforementioned phrase would become the password "Ijw2gli!" which is easy to remember and hard to guess. If you are going to use this method, pick a phrase which is easy to remember, but which is not obvious to people who know you. Do not use "Ijw2gli!" or anything similar.
